Accelerate Application Development

Phire Architect versions and stores all of the PeopleSoft objects in the Architect repository. This reduces the risks of overwrites or lost development work by giving your team the power to immediately restore any object version without having to perform time consuming database refreshes. Phire Architect prevents development conflicts by allowing your team to reserve and lock PeopleTools objects across all of your environments—making synchronization as easy as a mouse click.

Automate Migrations

The PeopleSoft delivered process for performing migrations are very time consuming and error prone. Phire Architect allows you to automate the migration process by combining PeopleTools objects, File objects, and Scripts all together within the same Change Request. By clicking a single button, the PeopleTools objects will be migrated to the predefined database and the files to the predefined directories on the predefined servers. There are no additional user credentials to specify nor need to know the source files reside or target directories reside. In addition, Phire’s ability to execute DMS and SQL scripts allow you to perform all these script executions from the browser without having to launch another application. All the migration logs and script execution logs are automatically attached to the Change Request so that you have a central location for all the activities that occurred during the migration.

Enable Migration Rollback

How often have you experienced problems immediately after a code migration? For PeopleSoft, the ability to rollback a migration is specially challenging because usually the migration involves PeopleTools objects which are stored in the database as rows of data. Phire enables you to backup all the objects immediately prior to the migration so that you can perform an easy rollback if necessary. The baseline version set can be configured to be taken automatically immediately before the migration. After the migration, if there are issues, you can rollback a single object or the entire set of objects that were migrated.

Are you tired of fighting fires?

Phire’s knowledge base, code repository, and migration rollback are some of the features that will help you anticipate and prevent application issues before they become fires.

Stop reacting to application fires. Use Phire Architect to proactively prevent issues before they become fires.

Integrate with Enterprise Applications, Help Desk and Incident Management Systems

Phire Architect has an integrated Incident / Defect Management repository. Phire can be used as the primary help desk application for ERP support activities, or it can be configured to integrate with an existing enterprise help desk application. Phire Architect can also be used to manage the evolution of your project specific incidents and issues by providing a single central repository for issue identification and tracking.

Users can automatically generate change requests from issues or defects. This integrated approach ensures the issue identification, development, and documentation cycle is never broken. Phire Architect also enables task-level tracking of actual hours, estimated hours, percent complete and total dollars so that change management activity can be translated into your project and cost accounting systems.

Wizard Driven Setup

Enable Rapid Application Deployment

Phire has a unique feature that enables Phire Architect to be deployed in days, not weeks or months. The Domain Setup Wizard walks you through the process of defining all the required setup data for a Phire domain from a single consolidated component. In addition, you can use the wizard to copy the setup data from one domain onto a new domain as well as validate the integrity of the setup data.

During the installation, Phire delivers a sample Domain that contains all the setup/code data that reflect best practices for incident and change request tracking. Within few hours of installation, you can start creating Issues and Change Requests. Of course, most customers configure Phire Architect to reflect their specific change management processes.

Workday is a next-generation software company offering human capital management, payroll, expenses and other modules, delivered in the software as a service model. Workday delivers a real-saas solution that has been built from the ground up. The Workday solution is based on a pay-as-you-go subscription model and the software itself is based on a multi-tenant, single code base with vendor-managed updates. For more information visit www.workday.com

PeopleSoft vs Workday – Old vs New

PeopleSoft has over 3,000 customers, and the number is decreasing* − Workday has less than a tenth of that but the number is increasing fast.

PeopleSoft runs the whole gamut of HCM − Workday has yet to plug some big holes in its product scope (global payroll, recruiting, learning, time.)

When PeopleSoft grew and went international, it took Europe by storm − Workday is taking much longer to grow overseas.

To run PeopleSoft will cost you several hundred dollars per year per user − Workday will cost you a fraction of that.

PeopleSoft is based on a technology that is 30 years old – Workday has the most modern object-oriented technology found in enterprise software.

When you meet a fellow PeopleSoft user and discuss your respective projects, you are comparing apples and oranges as many are either on Releases 7.5, or 8.3 or 9.0 − Workday customers can have a more meaningful discussion as they all are on the same product release.

You buy PeopleSoft − you rent Workday.

You install PeopleSoft on your computers − you access Workday over the internet.**

To meet your requirements you can (and sometimes have to) customize PeopleSoft to your heart’s content – and your system integrator’s great financial satisfaction − Configuring Workday may be enough.***

PeopleSoft, which covers all industries, has a strong offering for, and a large customer base in, the public sector − Workday so far is targeting mainly private businesses****

You upgrade PeopleSoft every three and a half years *** − you get a regular update from Workday several times a year.

PeopleSoft HCM is part of an ERP offering itself just another of several other business applications belonging to Oracle whose sprawling portfolio includes hardware and its flagship database system − Workday is first and foremost an HCM system branching out into the ERP world.

Both PeopleSoft and Workday are the brainchild of one of our industry’s legendary and visionary leaders, Dave Duffield − he built the former in his middle age and the latter as he nears his sunset years.

Why Workday is a Major Threat to SAP ?

Workday was founded in March of 2005 by David Duffield, the founder and former CEO of PeopleSoft, and former PeopleSoft chief strategist and Greylock Partner Aneel Bhusri. They launched their Human Capital Management (HCM) solution in November of 2006 and have since added Financials and Spend Management. They have strong partnership with Saleforce.com and other best of breed companies to help round out their product offering. Workday is a private company headquartered in Pleasanton, California and currently has about 775 employees which they expect to grow to 1,000 by the end of this year. They focus on enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and target midsize and large multinational enterprises which is a key and very important market for SAP. Enclosed are the top five reasons

1. Product – The Workday product has been built from the ground up over the past 6 years using a multi-tenant Software as a Service (SaaS) strategy with an underlying service- orientated architecture. With the luxury of building from scratch they have focused on a modern design, usability, strong analytics and mobile applications all of which are important for today’s businesses customers. Workday has some real advantages over the SAP Business Suite which has an older underlying architecture and user experience. It is important to note that Business ByDesign and the OnDemand product suite are following the multi-tenant SaaS model though neither offers a similar breadth of functionality at this time.

2. In-Core Memory – Workday was an early adopter of in-memory data base technology from the beginning and considers SAP the dinosaur of Enterprise Software. There are some differences between SAP’s and Workday’s In-Memory technology which were detailed in Brian Sommer article called SAP vs. Workday – In-Core/Memory Resident DB Usage but it is not my area of expertise. There has been a lot of talk within SAP over the past year regarding in-memory technology being a real “game changer” in the enterprise software marketplace. Given that Workday has been using in-memory technology for several years this will be a hard area for SAP to differentiate a competitive advantage to customers.

3. Innovation – Workday provides “Workday Updates” three times a year and with their multi-tenant SaaS model it takes no more than 6 weeks to migrate ALL their customers to the new version who are then ALL on the same release. Each customer has a sandbox copy of their production data that they can use to preview the Workday Update and decide what new functionality they would like to use. With their fast pace of innovation they are able to deliver cutting edge updates as customers demand new functionality such as IPad applications. There are “some” similarities between the Workday Updates and the SAP enhancement packages though with the long SAP development cycle of 12 to 18 months I am already seeing several areas in which SAP is having to playing catch up given Workday would have released 4 to 6 updates in that timeframe.

4. Management Team – Workday was founded by David Duffield and Aneel Bhusri both of which have extremely impressive backgrounds from their roles in PeopleSoft and other ventures. They have built a top notch management team of ERP industry veterans who know firsthand the weak spots of SAP as well as the pain points that customers have with on-premise software. I have been very surprised with how much goodwill and respect Workday has with the enterprise software analyst crowd which is typically a very tough group to please and says a lot about management. SAP has a strong leadership team as well which has done a great job over the past several years though being such a large company there are often many competing priorities.

5. Wall Street – Workday was founded by billionaire Dave Duffield who some would say is Silicon Valley’s most seasoned start-up CEO and has raised about $160 million of private capital from Duffield, Greylock Partners and New Enterprise Associates. Being a private company they have been able to make the “right” investments in their software and build the company without the pressures of Wall Street. They are targeting an IPO for the second half of 2012 which will leave them with a war chest to continue to grow the company especially if they are given the “cloud” premium that Salesforce (their partner and customer) has been given by the market. Being a large publically traded company, SAP has had the challenge of protecting their on-premise maintenance revenue while figuring out the best strategy to push the new SaaS offerings such as Business ByDesign and OnDemand.

While installing MSCRM, we need to specify base currency. Base currency is a currency in which all transaction in CRM gets recorded. User can have different currencies as MSCRM support multiple currencies, but we need to mention the base currency while creating new organization.

User has to remember that we cannot change the base currency once organization created. User can change base currency name and currency symbol if he wants. If mistakenly you chose wrong currency you have no option to change the currency and ultimately you will need to recreate the organization.

When user deactivate or delete a currency, the transaction related to the currency remains unchanged, but for new records user cannot add the deleted or deactivated currency.

We all know about DeletionStateCode by now. You have might be used it, while working on various reports or in queries while working with MSCRM 4.0.

In MSCRM 4.0 whenever we marked any record for deletion, it does not goes directly. In database its DeletionStateCode change to 2. This means when next time system job runs they will remove such records. Even while writing queries to work with live data we used to use DeletionStateCode to cross check we are working with live data only as “select * from filteredaccount where DeletionStateCode=’2’”.

But now in CRM 2011, this is gone. Now you don’t have to care about DeletionStateCode or live data as Microsoft has removed this concept completely. So now whenever you mark any record for deletion, it will be hard deleted immediately. This will reduce your workload a bit coz now you don’t need to remember at least this condition to retrieve active accounts only.

Before some days, I was working on a windows project. In this project I needed to work with CRM entities. To manipulate CRM entity we have 2 options.

-          Use Web Reference

-          Use CRM sdk dll

For this project we were using web reference. Meanwhile we added new attribute to one of the custom entity. So now as per procedure I needed to update CRM web reference in the project. So I simply followed below steps.

- Go to “Solution Explorer”, select the project name à “Web references” folder and the CRM reference.

- Now right click on the reference and select “Update Web Reference” option.

That’s it. But somehow I wasn’t able to find the new attribute in the web reference. Even I lost the entity itself when tried to search in web reference. So even I tried to remove and adding the CRM web reference again, but same result.

When research on this I found out that actually the web reference wasn’t right itself. The CRM installation is multi organizational. For this CRM installation there was 3 organizations and whenever I used to update reference or add new reference it try to connect with different organization and that was the cause of issue.

To solve this there is simple solution. While adding CRM web reference we need to specify the URL which refers to the “wsdl” page. This URL normally looks like as below.

http://servername:port/MSCrmServices/2007/CrmService.asmx

But when we work in multi organization environment we need to specify the organization name explicitly as below.

http://servername:port/MSCrmServices/2007/CrmService.asmx?WSDL&uniquename=OrgName

This solves the problem.

Though there are many third party tools both free and paid for converting Oracle to MySQL Table Migrations, I planned to explain the manual way of the migration process in steps below with the screenshots.

There are some changes that we need to do to convert the Oracle Schema Script to MySQL Schema Script.

Action List for the Migration from Oracle to MySQL:

Comment      out SQL*Plus specific commands.

Change      REM to —

Change      VARCHAR2 to VARCHAR

Change      NUMBER to INT

Change      NUMBER(x,x) to DECIMAL(x,x)

Change      CONSTRAINT keyword Syntax

For InnoDB tables, define PRIMARY KEY as part of the CREATE TABLE command and not a separate CREATE INDEX command.

Make      sure tables are created as InnoDB. set storage engine=innodb;

Modify constraint syntax for FOREIGN KEY definitions.

Fully quality PRIMARY KEY column in FOREIGN KEY constraint.

Remove READ ONLY clause with CREATE VIEW.

We’re going to perform the Migration for SH Schema objects from Oracle to MySQL with the above mentioned guidelines.

Step 1: Get the DDL Script(of SH schema Tables) of SH Schema by clicking toolsà Export DDL option using SQL Developer.

Step 2: Just to make sure whether the SH schema is already existing in MySQL, issue the following command.

DROP DATABASE IF EXISTS sh;

Step 3: Issue the following the command to create schema SH in MySQL. After issuing the command refresh the schemas on the left hand side to check whether the new schema “SH’ is created.

CREATE DATABASE sh;

Step 4: Issue the following command to make the ‘SH’ Schema usable.

USE sh;

Now we have created the SH schema in MySQL.

DDL of Customer table(from sh oracle schema) is

CREATE TABLE SH.CUSTOMERS

(

CUST_ID                 NUMBER                NOT NULL,

CUST_FIRST_NAME         VARCHAR2 (20 BYTE)     NOT NULL,

CUST_LAST_NAME          VARCHAR2 (40 BYTE)     NOT NULL,

CUST_MAIN_PHONE_NUMBER VARCHAR2(25 BYTE)     NOT NULL,

CUST_INCOME_LEVEL       VARCHAR2 (30 BYTE),

CUST_CREDIT_LIMIT       NUMBER,

CUST_EMAIL              VARCHAR2 (30 BYTE),

CUST_TOTAL              VARCHAR2 (14 BYTE)     NOT NULL,

CUST_TOTAL_ID           NUMBER                NOT NULL,

CUST_SRC_ID             NUMBER,

CUST_EFF_FROM           DATE,

CUST_EFF_TO             DATE,

CUST_VALID              VARCHAR2 (1 BYTE)

)

DDL OF CUSTOMER TABLE IN MYSQL(Equivalent to Oracle) is

CREATE TABLE CUSTOMERS

(

CUST_ID                 INT               NOT NULL,

CUST_STATE_PROVINCE_ID  INT               NOT NULL,

COUNTRY_ID              INT               NOT NULL,

CUST_MAIN_PHONE_INT VARCHAR(25)     NOT NULL,

CUST_INCOME_LEVEL       VARCHAR(30),

CUST_CREDIT_LIMIT       INT,

CUST_EMAIL              VARCHAR(30),

CUST_EFF_TO             DATE,

CUST_VALID              VARCHAR(1),

PRIMARY KEY (CUST_ID)

)

Running the above script will create the CUSTOMERS table in MySQL.

Refreshing the Schema on the left hand side will show the newly created table and its columns when you expand the arrows behind the ‘Tables’.

The Table is created in MySQL now. The next step is to load the Oracle table data to MySQL table.

To do this, export the Oracle Table Customers data by SQLPLUS.

Connect to the SH schema and enter the commands mentioned in the below screenshot.

Once the Export is completed the data will be exported to the mentioned location.

Now, import the data to MySQL database using the following command.

LOAD DATA INFILE “ C:\customer_oracle.csv ”   Into TABLE ‘sh.customers’
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ‘ ‘
OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY ‘”‘
LINES TERMINATED BY ‘\r’;

Note: The above command will help to import the CSV file to MySQL by command prompts…not helpful if we use GUI.

Export with options from Oracle:

Exported file availability:

Every one of us know that OnSave event is fired when user click on Save or Save and Close button on the form irrespective of data on form is modified or not.

Using OnSave event we can validate the data on the form. In the case data is not valid we need to cancel the event and show the alert to user about wrong field. In such case we can cancel the OnSave event using simple script as shown below.

event.returnValue = false;

SQL Error Message:
The backup of the file or filegroup “sysft_ftcat_documentindex” is not permitted because it is not online. BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to include only online data. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3007) BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013)

Resolution

workaround:

Initially you need to check the D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\FTData is exist if it is not exist then create the FTData folder

Afterwards:

Run the following query on database.

ALTER FULLTEXT CATALOG ftcat_documentindex REBUILD;

Some useful Full text command:

In the database that uses the full text catalog run:

SELECT name, ftcatid FROM sysobjects WHERE ftcatid > 0

That will give you a list of the tables which use it, then you can mark each table not to use full text:
